Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele
Fayose, has declared that the state has the capacity for only 14
commissioners based on its financial state.
The governor stated this on Thursday,
while featuring on the monthly radio and television programme, tagged
“Meet Your Governor.”
He said the immediate past
administration appointed more commissioners and special advisers than
the economy of the state could sustain.
Fayose, who said the state’s past
administration appointed 102 special advisers, assured the people of the
state that the list of the commissioners to be appointed by him would
be presented to the state House of Assembly within 48 hours.
He
told the people that his administration would explore all available
means towards improving Internally Generated Revenue in the state.
While giving an update on the recent
staff verification exercise, the governor said that a total of 49,066
civil servants had been screened while 48,257 of them had been verified,
leaving the status of 809 workers as unverifiable.
As part of the measures to increase IGR,
Fayose said all taxable adults, including corporate bodies, must live
up to their responsibilities by paying their taxes to the government.
He charged all federal agencies
operating in the state to pay the taxes they owed the state government
to avoid being sanctioned.
Fayose also tasked persons who had bought plots of land and houses from the state government since 2003 to pay up.
Speaking on security, Fayose said any
resident whose building is either used as accommodation or warehouse by
armed robbers would have such property demolished immediately.
He also threatened to seize farmlands where cultivation of Indian hemp is discovered in any part of the state.
